But our apartment complex in Rias Baixas has a privileged location, close to authentic natural wonders including forests, waterfalls and even natural freshwater pools that are also worth a visit.
Here are some of our favourite waterfalls and natural pools for a holiday in Rías Baixas.
Best waterfalls in Rías Baixas
Barosa waterfall. Municipality of Barro.
It has a comfortable hiking route along the slope of the waterfall. Several windmills are crossed along the route, which gives it a unique appearance.
It has a recreation area and ample parking and a restaurant nearby.
Fervenza de Segade in Caldas de Reis.
The Fervenza de Segade in Caldas de Reis can be reached by following a circular route that starts at the Parque-Jardín Botánico and the Carballeira de Caldas de Reis, where we can park our car and begin our walk.
The route runs along the edge of the Umia river and you can see the remains of an abandoned hydroelectric power station. Once we reach the waterfall we can continue our walk until we reach the Roman bridge of Segade.
This is a common bathing spot on hot days and the stone forms natural slides.
Fervenza das Freixas
Located in Ponte Caldelas. These two waterfalls are difficult to access. They are places with a very attractive landscape and where it is common to find people canyoning.
Liñares Waterfall
To access this waterfall you can follow a 7.5 km route called “Tralos pasos do río Xesta” or go directly to a car park located near the waterfall.
If you prefer to focus exclusively on visiting the well-known Fervenza de Liñares, you can easily reach it by road at a turn-off to the right just before reaching the village of Liñares. After parking you will see a dirt road and at the end of it you will find a wooden footbridge that leads to the upper part of the waterfall and two viewpoints.
Best natural swimming pools in Rias Baixas
If you are more of a pool person than a beach person, you will probably have chosen our appartments with pool for a holiday in Rias Baixas.
But if you feel like leaving the comfort of our resort and discovering some natural enclaves where you can take a dip, here are two suggestions
Pozas of Mougas
Located in the municipality of Oia. This is one of the most spectacular pools in Galicia. They are impressive natural pools that can also be visited on a hiking route.
Pozas of Moura
Located in Domaio, these pools are a real natural Jacuzzi overlooking the Vigo estuary. It has a complicated access but it is worth the effort to get to this unusual place. This difficulty means that it is not very crowded.
If you like legends, you should know that this place has a mystical touch and contains legends of tragic love.
